Giddyup! Calgary Stampede was quite a ride!!
The Calgary Stampede is fun no matter how you slice it, but Stampede 2015 was a whole new Corn Dog for me. I was hired as the first Stampede Saddledome Venue Announcer, so I was on site for all the events being held in the Dome…from Mini Chuckwagons to Team Cattle Penning, the Tractor Pull and Cowboy Up!! It was a really cool experience, because I got insider information from the pros, and got to talk to the crowds and have some laughs along with them. It was much like Co-Hosting a radio show, something I’ve been doing for years! There was an expert “calling” each event, and I was the uninformed sidekick; asking questions, giving colour commentary and generally having fun with the people in the stands. I was your every(wo)man!
Some of these guys have been inside these rodeo/agricultural events for years, and forget that the average person doesn’t have a clue how things are supposed to work. So, I was the dummy asking questions…making myself look silly, so you people didn’t have to (you’re welcome)!! By the way, I’m a big fan of Team Cattle Penning now, because of it!! It’s a thrilling ride, pitting a stubborn cow up against a smart horse and it’s cowboy/girl – with only 60 seconds to complete the task!! Sounds like what happens daily in my own home!!
I’m looking forward to next year’s Stampede…I think I’ll have recovered from all the mini donuts by then!!
